Souverain Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2001
Cabernet Sauvignon
from Sonoma County, California
winemaker's notes:
An amazing value in 2001 California Cabernet! Dark, rich, and spicy, this is one to buy by the case - get it while you can!
"The opaque purple-colored 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley reveals a ripe nose of licorice, lead pencil, black currants, and tobacco leaf. Nicely textured, with fine density, bigger, more forceful flavors than the 2000, and more tannic punch in the finish, it should last for 10-15 years."
-Wine Advocate, 88-91 Barrel Sample
This Cabernet Sauvignon is always a great value from California. An open aroma dominated by dark, blackberry and currant-like fruit. Nearly two years aging in small barrels has added complex nuances of vanilla, coffee and spice which are complemented by one of the most extracted, ripe berry flavored wines in recent memory. The rich tannin backbone and balanced acidity round out a very complete Cabernet Sauvignon.

This is a great cabernet with an even better value. It's tough to beat the Alexander Valley cabs, and this one shows why they're so good. Great during dinner with a nice Filet, and even after with some fine dark chocolate...Enjoy!

A good, solid cab with nice balance. This one has a little of that chocolate-mocha merlot thing going on in the finish. Souverain is one of my go-to wines, a great QPR (quality-to-price ratio).
