Simi Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 1999
Cabernet Sauvignon
from Sonoma County, California
winemaker's notes:
The 1999 is dark red with purple tones and up front aromas of berry with a hint of sweet oak.
Cherries, berries and cassis flavors touch the palate. A lingering finish of elegant tannins and black spice completes this silky wine. Varietal Composition is 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc.
Alexander Valley possesses the greatest diversity of soil types in any wine growing region of California. It has a long history of dramatic geologic activity--from an ancient mudflow that changed the course of the Russian River, to earthquake upheavals that redistributed whole sections of land. The incredible diversity of soil types and microclimates produces wines with the velvety textures and bright, luscious flavors that are characteristic of Alexander Valley. Simi Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon reflects the best of Alexander Valley's bright fruit characters and elegance that made this world class growing region famous.

I'm no expert....yet...but having had the opportunity to drink my fair share of $50 - $100 bottles, I am amazed at the quality and value that this wine offers. I may be crazy telling so many friends about this, because there will be less of it around for me, but this wine drinks, smells and tastes like a bottle I'd pay 3 times the price for. A truly fabulous wine for under $30.

For $20-25 you get a $100 aged Bordeaux. Rich, yet subtle on the nose and then powerful, blackberry, balanced taste and finish. I recommend this to all my friends who want "value" in the mid 20's.
