Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.
Ratings Pedigree:

Winemaker's Notes

It is a dark-cherry colored red wine, very intense in color, and with purple hints. In the nose, it shows very clean aromas of red and black fruits, strawberries, raspberries, cassis, very well balanced with creamy and pleasant toasted notes from the barrique. It also shows a slightly spicy touch of liquorice. In the mouth, it is rich, fruity with round and ripe tannins. It has good acidity, and shows nice notes of vanilla, smoke and coffee. A powerful wine but with a very elegant balance.

Critical Acclaim

"The purple-colored 2009 Pasion de Bobal (100%) went through malolactic fermentation in barrel followed by 6 months aging in new French oak. Fragrant raspberries, exotic spices, incense, and lilacs inform the nose of this racy, pleasure-bent offering that over-delivers in a big way. Drink it over the next 4 years. "
