Shoofly Aussie Salute 2005
Other Red Blends from Australia
The Winemaker's Buzz. It takes a lot to get an Australian hot under the collar! Even a billion flies don't seem to bother them- a casual flick of the wrist, the "Aussie Salute", is enough to deal with their infernal buzzing. Although when it comes to winemaking, they're not so relaxed. Saluting the great regions and growers, this blend of Grenache, Shiraz and Viognier is rich, fragrant, and inviting.
The Aussie Salute is a blend of spicy Grenache, succulent Shiraz and a whiff of aromatic Viognier- a feisty combination that works wonders on the palate. Rich, fragrant and inviting, this wine expresses blackberry, plum, currant and black pepper notes.
Made with structure and grip, the vibrant, juicy length lingers with a clean ‘have another glass' finish. Drink now or hide in the cellar for 3 years.
Shoofly's winemaker Ben Riggs is a native of McLaren Vale and has been crafting some of the region's finest for two decades. Ben knows his stuff and where to get it – his roster of grape growers is one of the most sought after contact lists in the country. Premium regions produce the best fruit and the grapes come from a "who's who" of Australian growers and viticultural neighborhoods – Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Clare Valley, Langhorne Creek, Adelaide Hills and Heathcote. View all Shoofly WinesLike the United States, which is about the same size, Australia's winemaking regions are huddled into one or two pockets of the country. The state of South Australia, which produces about 60% of the country's wine, also has the most wineries and sub-regions, including McLaren Vale, Clare Valley, Coonawarra and Barossa Valley. New South Wales is home to the Hunter Valley, while the smaller, southern state of Victoria is best known for theYarra Valley. Head way west to the very large state of Western Australia and you'll find the tiny region of Margaret River at the southern tip.

2 ratings, 2 with reviewssean windsor - New York, NY24/20/2010I had read several articles about this wine and how it was a good one for the money. I disagree. And I am a fan of Austrialian wines. But not this one. Shoo this one away if offeredPam - Castro Valley, CA57/15/2008I do have a thing for Australian wines, and this one does not disappoint. I read the reviews and then purchased this wine. I have to agree with the other reviewers. This wine is full of fruit immediately and has a very nice smooth finish to it. It also has a great nose. I knew as soon as I smelled this wine I'd fall in love with it. And, look at the price.
