Wine Style Guide

Light & Fruity

Red wines that are more fruit-forward and lighter in tannin and body.

Smooth & Supple

Medium bodied reds that go down easy, with smooth tannins and supple fruit.

Earthy & Spicy

Wines where earthy and/or spicy dominate the flavors – typically medium to full body.

Big & Bold

Full bodied wines that have concentrated fruit and are higher in alcohol and/or tannins. Some need age.

Alcohol By Volume: 14.5%

Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.
Ratings Pedigree:

Winemaker's Notes

A big, thick, juicy, dense purple-colored effort, it reveals lots of blackberry and cassis fruit intermixed with hints of camphor, licorice and spicy oak. This medium to full-bodied, luscious, fruity, crowd-pleaser should keep for 3-4 years.

Critical Acclaim

"The 2011 Barrica is the richest and densest. It offers up camphor, pepper, bouquet garni, roasted meat, black currant and earthy blue fruit. Full-bodied, chewy and mouth-filling, this is a big, well-balanced wine that represents a super value. Drink it over the next 2-4 years. "
92 Points

"Bright ruby. Lively red fruits and fresh flowers on the nose, with sexy Asian spices and a mineral element adding nuance. Deep and sweet but energetic, showing very good precision to its raspberry and bitter cherry flavors. Silky tannins build on the long, pliant finish, which features a touch of bitter chocolate. "

I love this wine because you can open it on Monday, drink a glass a day, and it will still taste good by the time you take that last glass on Thursday. A great choice if you can't drink an entire bottle at one time. That being said, it's intense; full of cherries and red berries, with some notes of fennel running all the way through the palate. Syrah rounds out the edges perfectly!
