Selene derives its name from the Greek goddess of the full moon. Mia Klein and Ed Powers have been producing Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc under the Selene label since 1991. Their 1999 Blackbird Vineyard Merlot is their first vineyard-designated wine from their Oak Knoll area vineyard.
Technically a part of Napa Valley, the Carneros region straddles both Sonoma & Napa counties. It's the Napa region closest to the San Francisco peninsula and the San Pablo Bay, which is instrumental in controlling the climate of the area.
