Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.
Each year, our goal for Southing is to create the ideal marriage of complexity and elegance. The seductive nose of the 2009 Southing exhibits fresh leather, rose water, black cherry, violets and
hint of macerated cherry. The fine tannins and minerality are enhanced by our estate vineyard's characteristic cool climate acidity.
"Sea Smoke's 2009 Pinot Noir Southing is gorgeous. It possesses striking textural depth and finesse. Juicy dark cherries, spices and flowers take shape beautifully as the wine fleshes out in the glass. The finish turns a bit fleeting as floral elements become more pronounced, but this is still a very pretty, nuanced Pinot. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2017."

"Deep violet color. Intense, oak-spiced aromas of dark berries, cherry liqueur, potpourri and woodsmoke. Deeply pitched black raspberry and cherry cola flavors show good breadth, surprising vivacity and a silky texture (this has a low pH of 3.3, by the way), with notes of candied lavender and sassafras coming up with aeration. In a ripe but energetic style, finishing with very good cling and lingering spiciness."
