The 2005 J. Davies exhibits aromas of black cherry and bramble-berry combined with sweet tobacco, mulled spice, and cassia bark. This wine is rich in volume with full extraction but shows a restrained elegance with a balance of refined minerality. Substantial, chewy tannins on the palate transition to a long and luxurious finish.
"This sleek black wine has layers of rich tannin, ranging from the graphite feel of pencil lead to something more pungently mineral - it grows in gravelly clay loam and decomposed volcanic soils. The fruit is floral and super-ripe, lasting in balance with the complex tannins."

"Deep garnet hue with a feathered rim. Aa bouquet of fresh cherry and Hhershey’s chocolate. Rrich and spicy with black cherry, red licorice and vanilla flavors. While cabernet is the driving force in the blend, petit verdot and malbec add a novel bell peppery spiciness to the finish."
The Wine News
"Ripe and fleshy, with a zesty core of red and black cherry, currant and cranberry notes that are pure and focused, showing a dusty, minerally edge and ending with nicely structured tannins. Tempting now. Decant. Best from 2010 through 2017. 1,826 cases made."
