The length of the 2005 growing season allowed for the development of ripe fruit character.
Fresh crisp apple, lemon chiffon and juicy pineapple all come to mind. Suggestions of
warm brioche and hazelnut lead way to a pleasing palate bursting with ripe apple, key
lime and plump apricot. The 2005 Blanc de Blancs finishes with refreshing acidity and
a quenching palate.
While this wine can be enjoyed by itself as an apéritif, it is also perfect with fresh oysters and other shellfish, crab cakes, ceviche
and grilled sea bass. It is also delicious with lemon chicken and Thai curries. Serve with aged Gouda or other hard cheeses and as
a counterpoint to soft triple creams.
"Made from 100% Chardonnay, this sparkler is just delicious, a versatile wine to have by itself, with savories, sushi or the most elegant meals. Crisp and balanced, it has rich flavors of pineapples, peach jam, brioche and vanilla, with a smoky edge."
"Although its suggestions of chalk and stones and green, slightly citrusy fruit are very much the stuff of classic Blanc de Blancs, Schramsberg's latest goes a step further than most in terms of richness and ups the ante by way of its considerable yeast. Very dry and austere in the way of its genre, it is firm and frothy with lots of life and seems a genuine candidate for improving with a bit of time in the bottle."
