Light & Fruity Smooth & Supple Earthy & Spicy Big & Bold
winemaker's notes:

The color is a lustrous ruby red. On the nose you'll find ripe red and black fruit aromas mingle with leather and spice, exquisitely balanced by wood notes evoking vanilla and toast. On the palate are supple tannins and a majestic structure conclude in a complex and persistent finish.

Delicious with steaks, wild game, hearty stews, casseroles and ripe, semi-creamy cheeses.

alcohol by volume: 14.6%
critical acclaim:

"A profound Cabernet from Santa Rita’s home vineyard in Alto Jahuel. The hue is dark and opaque, while the nose is deep and earthy, but also intensely fruity. Shows fine structure and a lot of black cherry and cassis. The real deal in affordable Chilean higher-end CS; offers a little of everything, from spice to herbs to olive to fine fruit. Editors' Choice"

Wine Enthusiast

"Very solid for the vintage, with crushed plum, fig and black current fruit woven with maduro tobacco and bittersweet cocoa. There’s a loam edge on the finish, but this stays solidly fleshy through the end."

Consistently great Cabernet, the Medalla Real is definitely a step above the regular Santa Rita Cab.

This is a very solid Cabernet for the price. It's very mellow for a Cab without the big tannin blast.

Excellent cab for the money. Great go to red for dinners @ home.

I really wanted to like this bottle. I only ordered it because according to Wine.com it's a popular and highly rated one. Impression: the smell of toasted dry leaves and old oak overpowers any positive experience this bottle can offer. No vanilla from the oak here, just a toasty wet woody smell. On the palate the wine isn't as smooth as I thought it'd be, it was average at best. I tasted several times on 2 different days and each time it was quite different than the previous. A 9 dollar bottle at best.

Descent wine. Smooth and delicate for a Cab. Not your bold Napa style.

Extrordinary wine. Starts out earthy/spicy and mellows over time into a big bold smooth red. Not surprised WS gave it 90 pts. A must buy.

rating (8/2/2011):

A fairly big and chewy cab. Good flavors, deep color. Npse of intense blackberry and stone fruit, including peaches and blueberries. Subtle nuances of toasted oak and brown spices. A good wine for the price and may improve with cellaring for a couple of years. While it tastes good, it struggles to find harmony on the palate. I thought the tannins were nice, my wife thougth it was too tannic and unbalanced with respect to mouthfeel. Shows good promise .
