Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

Santa Alicia Cabernet Sauvignon Maipo Reserva is a brilliant and deep ruby red color. Aromas of ripe fruit, bitter chocolate and spices. This wine also has good structure and concentration with round tannins. Pairs well with red meats, barbecue and a large array of cheese.

Critical Acclaim

"From its intriguing black tea aroma, this cabernet moves toward red fruit flavors - strawberries and sweet raspberries - that charm with their depth. It finishes with a soft, smoky touch that lasts."

it's a little light for a reserve cabernet. I would not purchase it again.

Deep red body cabernet, delicious! As usual a lot of bang for the buck. Where else can you purchase a 91 point cab for 8.99 with free shipping. Love, love, love wine.com!

This maybe my favorite find of 2013 todate. I called back to order a case to find out I could have the last bottle. I put up against many much more expensive Cabs. Bruce

At this price ($8.25/bottle), we didn't have very high expectations, but after opening the first bottle my wife said What is this wine; I really like it? Unusual for her, but it was enough motivation to order another case before the sale ended. Very smooth and tasty. Ready to drink now, but plan to save a few bottles for the future after it ages a little more.

This excellent screw top wine was a real surprise. It had a smoothness that belied its age. The aroma was fruity with hints of chocolate and hazel nut. The smoothness on the papllet was amazing. It should become a standard in everyones everyday wine collection.

Yes, perhaps a little light for a reserve cab, but very impressive balance and body for the price. Excellent house wine.

Especially for the price, a really nice Cab. A little less bold than what I prefer, but let me put it this way...the case arrived two weeks ago and is already gone! I like the fruity character of this Cab overall...definitely a good buy!

A very nice, light Chilean cabernet. Still has a little of that vegetative Chilean undertone -- don't they have de-stemmers down there?? But a great value. Also very inconsistent. Some bottles are sublime, others are rangy...

The color of this wine is a deep purple at the center, easing to a bright ruby along the edges. The nose is quite interesting, with aromas of ripe plum and blackberry intermingled with oak, spice and a grassy smell that creates an odd complexity. The taste is quite fruit forward, with ripe berry flavors that quickly give way to some tar, tobacco and spice midpalate. The finish of this full bodied wine is quite lush, with firm tannins providing just the right bit of tartness to balance the full mouthfeel. This is a very nice Cabernet that will likely not benefit from much more age, and is drinking quite nicely right now. Learn About Santa Alicia

In 1954, on fertile lands close to the capital of Chile, an important politician and businessman, Mr. Maximo Valdes, founded the vineyard Houses of Pirque. With extensive experience in the wine business, he begins planting Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. After half a century and four generations, the Valdes family has turned these vineyards in the...

Learn About Chile

(CHEE-lay) Long and thin, Chile has a lot of land north to south. The wine region here is a series of districts based near Santiago. The vineyards are protected by the Pacific on the west and the Andes mountains on the east. This could help explain why the climate changes more from east to west than north to south - also why the country has remained phylloxera free....

Learn About Cabernet Sauvignon

(cab-uhr-NAY sow-veeh-yawn) King of Red Many refer to Cabernet Sauvignon as the king of red grapes. Perhaps that title is due to its ability to grow worldwide in a number of climates, or to the fact that it produces wine with such character yet such diversity. Either way, this grape is responsible, as a whole or a partner, for some of the greatest wines in the world. In Bordeaux,...
