winemaker's notes:

Santa Alicia Cabernet Sauvignon Maipo Reserva is a brilliant and deep ruby red color. Aromas of ripe fruit, bitter chocolate and spices. This wine also has good structure and concentration with round tannins. Pairs well with red meats, barbecue and a large array of cheese.

alcohol by volume: 14.0%
critical acclaim:

"From its intriguing black tea aroma, this cabernet moves toward red fruit flavors - strawberries and sweet raspberries - that charm with their depth. It finishes with a soft, smoky touch that lasts."

it's a little light for a reserve cabernet. I would not purchase it again.

Yes, perhaps a little light for a reserve cab, but very impressive balance and body for the price. Excellent house wine.

At this price ($8.25/bottle), we didn't have very high expectations, but after opening the first bottle my wife said What is this wine; I really like it? Unusual for her, but it was enough motivation to order another case before the sale ended. Very smooth and tasty. Ready to drink now, but plan to save a few bottles for the future after it ages a little more.

A very nice, light Chilean cabernet. Still has a little of that vegetative Chilean undertone -- don't they have de-stemmers down there?? But a great value. Also very inconsistent. Some bottles are sublime, others are rangy...
rating (1/11/2013):
The color of this wine is a deep purple at the center, easing to a bright ruby along the edges. The nose is quite interesting, with aromas of ripe plum and blackberry intermingled with oak, spice and a grassy smell that creates an odd complexity. The taste is quite fruit forward, with ripe berry flavors that quickly give way to some tar, tobacco and spice midpalate. The finish of this full bodied wine is quite lush, with firm tannins providing just the right bit of tartness to balance the full mouthfeel. This is a very nice Cabernet that will likely not benefit from much more age, and is drinking quite nicely right now. Especially for the price, a really nice Cab. A little less bold than what I prefer, but let me put it this way...the case arrived two weeks ago and is already gone! I like the fruity character of this Cab overall...definitely a good buy!

rating (9/25/2012):
This excellent screw top wine was a real surprise. It had a smoothness that belied its age. The aroma was fruity with hints of chocolate and hazel nut. The smoothness on the papllet was amazing. It should become a standard in everyones everyday wine collection.
