The 2008 Sanford Santa Rita Hills Pinot Noir is a blend of from our two estate vineyards, La Rinconada, and the historic Sanford and Benedict Vineyard. Both of these stellar vineyards are in the heart of the Santa Rita Hills. A mix of vineyard blocks and several different clones gives this wine great complexity. The wine is brilliant red in color and is bursting with raspberry, cranberry, pepper and sage on the nose. The palate delivers silky berry flavors framed nicely by bright acidity and supple tannins. The wine was allowed to age in French Oak barrels (30% new oak) for 10 months where it gained concentration and picked up hints of vanilla and cinnamon.

The largest of California's wine growing regions, the Central Coast produces the majority of California's wine. The district sprawls out, covering most of the vineyard land between San Francisco and Santa Barbara. Smaller sub-AVAs of the Central Coast include Monterey Bay, Paso Robles, Santa Ynez Valley, Santa Maria Valley, Santa Cruz Mountains and many others.

Some Central Coast wine is generic, bulk wine that contributes to the high production numbers of the area. Drinkable and pleasing as its bouquet opens up and it amazed almost like two different pinots within 15 minutes of a pour in a big open mouth wine glass. Very deep red color and a fantastic introduction to pinot noir. Velvety on the tongue as you move through the bottle but tannins never evolve.
