Winemaker's Notes

Its ruby hue is notably intense, the bouquet insistent and complex, exhibiting ripe wild berry fruit and spices. In the mouth, it is rich and deep, with warm alcohol and tannins that are silk-smooth and succulent.

Critical Acclaim

"Complex aromas of dried porcini and blackberries follow though to a full body, with silky tannins and a beautiful depth of fruit. Hints of chilies and spices with the fruit. Delicious wine. Drink now or hold. "
93 Points

"Good deep, bright red. Ripe, musky aromas of plum, mocha, dried flowers and underbrush. Supple and rich but quite dry; densely packed and nicely delineated, with little easy sweetness. Good saline minerality contributes to the impression of energy and structure. Finishes with good lift and lingering perfume, not to mention a firm tannic spine. I'd hold this for six or seven years before pulling the cork.

For a stint in the 70s and 80s, wines labeled Chianti contained cheap red wine packaged in a straw casked bottle, most popular for the candle holder it would become. But no more. Sangiovese re...
