winemaker's notes:
This crowd pleasing juicy Merlot shows why Washington state is the next hot region for value priced red wines. Sagelands Vineyard specializes in distinctive Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from key growing areas that it is developing in Washington State's Columbia Valley. Called the "Four Corners," these areas are Wahluke Slope, Horse Heaven Hills, Rattlesnake Hills and the Walla Walla Valley. Full of soft berry fruit, vanilla, and spice.

the 2003 is a truly fantastic wine. It's one of those very rare occasions where the reviews are dead on, if not underrated.
Silky, very smooth, fruit forward with a great finish. Highly recommended and really a fantastic surprise from Washington. One of the best merlots I've ever had below $60.

The 2001 is one of the better Merlots I've had in quite some time, and for a very reasonable price. Washington may be better suited to growing this finicky grape than California, and at a much better value to the consumer. I must admit I'm not particularly fond of Merlots in general, but this one was worth every penny.
