Ruffino Il Ducale Toscana 2008
Red Wine
from Tuscany, Italy
winemaker's notes:
60% Sangiovese, 20% Merlot, 20% Syrah.
Ruby red with violet reflections. The bouquet is complex and intense, with notes of cassis, cherry jam, plums and chocolate. It denotes very clean flavors of tobacco, vanilla, eucalyptus and spice. These pleasant spicy notes displayed by the Syrah complement the red and black fruit and aromatic herbs, shown by Sangiovese, and the roundness typical of Merlot. On the palate, this wine is well bodied, with initial fruit forward notes, unfolding into round and elegant tannins. The finish is pleasantly refined, showing notes of ripe fruit together with aromas of vanilla and balsamic herbs.
This smooth red wine is a perfect accompaniment to herb-roasted chicken, meatball sliders, or beef carpaccio. Pair with tomato bruschetta or with Parmigiano Reggiano or Pecorino Romano cheeses for Italian-style-entertaining.
