winemaker's notes:

Rubicon Estate 2004 CASK Cabernet is a classic, grand style American Cabernet. It is loaded with ripe red cherry and rum raisin scents, which are telltale hallmarks of Rutherford Cabernet in a great year. Immediately accessible for its forward charm, the dense and supple tannins are inviting to experience but the rewards will come with three to six years of bottle age.

critical acclaim:

"Ripe, with spicy plum and blackberry fruit that's fresh and vibrant, yet elegant and stylish, finishing with a zesty Cabernet aftertaste. Drink now through 2012."

88 Points

Wine Spectator

"Based on the old 100% Cabs from Inglewood that aged forever, Rubicon’s interpretation has the same hard, tough tannins in youth. It’s not a wine you want to drink anytime soon. Bursting with cherry, blackberry, plum and vanilla flavors, it has the elegant balance needed for ageability. Best after 2010, and should hold and improve for many years after."

  Lucky find - 11/26/2007

I would buy this wine again
While the 2002 vintage most certainly cleared my cellar at a date long before planned, a 2003 left us wanting more. By some odd stroke of luck I found a case of 3 2003's and 9 2004's at a local liquer store for $9.99 each. As it turns out, apparently Coppola does not put a barcode on these bottles and the store had it marked as if it were a Rosso... The true price was supposed to be $79.99 each not $9.99 each. When reporting this to the store they simply said congratulations (and they don't have any left)... Short story is that wine.com still has a better price than what these were supposed to cost, and we decided to just go ahead and drink all of them now. I can certainly see why the 2003 received a 95 rating and the 2004 has us happy each night at the dinner table. Wine.com's price is quite reasonable for this world class cab. It's giant and luxurious.

Kosher wine
Kosher
A Kosher wine begins like every other - as grapes on a vine. Once they reach the winery for crushing, the wine is under strict rabbinal supervision.
Screw Cap wine
Screw Cap
Many studies report and winemakers agree that screw caps protect wine better and preserve its flavor more effectively than cork. More importantly, screw caps eliminate cork taint caused by TCA, a compound which develops in a small percentage of corks and ruins the taste of wine.
Green wine
Green Wines
Wines that use sustainable, organic and/or biodynamic practices in the vineyard and/or winemaking process. We rely on a number of U.S. and International certifications to qualify wines "green."
