This vineyard encompasses about 60 acres of sloping red loam and shale in the eastern Redwood Valley of Mendocino County. 35 acres are planted to 42-year old head pruned Zinfandel vines, with the balance planted to Carignane and Petite Sirah. Production is an average of 2 - 3 tons per acre.
This beautiful wine comes from Annette and Richard Rhodes' estate in Redwood Valley -- A blend of 78% Zinfandel, 13% Carignane, and 9% Petite Sirah from the same ranch. This wine is a scholarly Zinfandel -- a Rhodes scholar, with deep red color and an exotic bouquet of blackberries, vanilla and mulled spice with evidence of rose petal. The flavors are rich black cherry with hints of chocolate, black olives and cracked pepper.
