winemaker's notes:
Roederer Estate Brut, the first California sparkling wine produced by Champagne Louis Roederer, builds upon a 200-year tradition of fine winemaking that has made Roederer champagne among the most sought-after in the world. Roederer's winemaking style is based on two elements: ownership of its own
vineyards and the addition of oak-aged reserve wines to each year's blend or
cuvée. All the grapes for the Anderson Valley wines are grown on the
Estate. Each year, the winemaker selects a portion of the best wines for
aging in Center of France oak casks. Aged from one to three years, wines
from this reserve cellar are added to the blend, creating a multi-vintage
cuvée in the traditional Roederer style, known for its body, finesse and
depth of flavor. The Roederer Estate Brut debuted in October 1988, and has since established
its reputation as one of California's premier sparklers, remaining true to
the heritage of excellence and style of its French forebears.
critical acclaim:
"70% Chardonnay; 30% Pinot Noir. Our first pick of the bunch among current crop of non-vintage brut bottlings, this intense, genuinely complex effort sports a lovely mix of toasty yeast and lemony fruit from its expansive aromas to its very long and very rich flavors. It is impeccably balanced, quite creamy in feel and is enlivened by an endless stream of tiny, pinpoint bubbles. And if all this were not enough, it comes with the very real bonus of being widely available."

Connoisseurs' Guide
"A rich version, loaded with spicy cinnamon notes. Bold apple aromas, with a whiff of yeast, lead to complex, layered pear, creme brulee and baked apple flavors that linger."

Wine Spectator
"Fragrant fruit ripeness lends this wine penetrating flavors of raspberry essence, tart pear and green apple, a fine mesh of pinot noir and chardonnay. The texture is smooth, the bubbles bringing a touch of yeastiness and almond flavor to balance the freshness of the fruit. A lovely, tightly structured Brut to serve with wood-roasted snapper and hen of the woods. "

Wine & Spirits
"This is an absolutely first-rate bubbly, dry, smooth and rich. Has complex flavors of peaches, limes and strawberries, accented by doughy yeast and smoky flavors. Really defines the balanced elegance and pedigree you want in a great sparkler. "

I would buy this wine again
This is probably (so far) the best "cheap sparkling / pseudo champagne) I have ever had. Tastes great, surprising body, and for ~$20 it is a steal. For an NV, truly surprising. I'd serve it to anyone.
