winemaker's notes:

Like the Roederer Estate Anderson Valley Brut, the Roederer Estate Rosé is untraditional. While most rosés are made with more Pinot Noir than Chardonnay, the Roederer Estate Rosé is a blend of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Charodnnay. For color, the winemaker prepares a small portion of Pinot Noir with extended maceration and adds about 5% to the blend before secondary fermentation, imparting a subtle salmon tinge. Both the 60/40 blend and addition of the small amount of red wine create a charming wine of discreet finesse.

As with all Roederer Estate wines, the Brut Rosé is 100% estate grown. Oak-aged wines from the Estate's reserve cellars are added to the blend, creating a multi-vintage cuvée in the traditional Roederer style.

The Roederer Estate Rosé is full and round with smooth flavors and a fine, persistent mousse. The extra measure of Chardonnay contributes elegance and austerity that balance nicely with the delicate fruitiness of the Pinot Noir.

critical acclaim:

"Full-bodied and rich, this slightly orange-colored bubbly offers forward flavors of cherry vanilla and Chardonnay with mashed ripe strawberries. It’s very good, an addictively drinkable bubbly that finishes clean, dry and yeasty. "

  Best sparkling under $50 - 12/18/2008
I would buy this wine again
Champagnes and sparkling wines are overpriced to begin with. But I enjoy the bubbly to another run of the mill white varietal. What I like most about this sparkling, aside from the great price, is the quality of the bubbles. It feels more like a top shelf champagne. It's very dry and the bubbles have a velvety quality. The flavor is very refined although if you are looking for the exotic notes of a Cliquot or similar, perhaps this isn't as much so. Personally, I prefer it to Cliquot. It's much better than Gloria Ferrer, Feuillat, Mums and any of the others under $40. I even prefer it to the Moets et al in the $50-60 range. If I had more to spend, I'd probably go for the Louis Roederers which I think are the wonderful as well. The Roederers just do it right.

I would not buy this wine again
I've had many other champagnes at the same price point that surpass this offering and others still that cost less that do the same. Try Mumms, Gloria Ferrer, instead.

I would buy this wine again
Normally not a fan of anything rose, this sparkling wine from California sets itself apart from others in its price category. By keeping the skins on Pinot just long enough to give it some color, you also get more body and flavor making this a very interesting wine by itself or with food. A Kosher wine begins like every other - as grapes on a vine. Once they reach the winery for crushing, the wine is under strict rabbinal supervision.
Screw Cap wine
Screw Cap
Many studies report and winemakers agree that screw caps protect wine better and preserve its flavor more effectively than cork. More importantly, screw caps eliminate cork taint caused by TCA, a compound which develops in a small percentage of corks and ruins the taste of wine.
