Winemaker's Notes

Gnarled and twisted old Zinfandel vines are as expressive as the wines they produce. The power and concentration of our 1997 Old Vine Zinfandel is the sensory equivalent of the magnificence of these beautiful old vines.

Aromas of earth, clove, sweet pipe tobacco and dark cherries express the character drawn from the seasoned vines along the Russian River in both the Alexander and Russian River valleys. A cedar and sandelwood aroma from ten months in American oak barrels is a delightful match with flavors that are earthen and smoky with overtones of sweet blackberry and strawberry fruit. This wine produced from 100% Zinfandel has classic old vine character carried through in a full-bodied wine with a long lingering finish.

In keeping with its California heritage, I like to serve this wine with a selection of grilled fresh garden vegetables and Sonoma sausages. -Rick Sayre, Winemaker
