Winemaker's Notes

This wine is produced from a special loose clustered field selection of Chardonnay from the Hanzell field selection grown near the Russian River on our estate. Complex aromas of ripe fruit combine with floral notes and an element of roasted hazelnuts with a touch of mineral. The flavors are rich and full, with pleaseant acidity.

Critical Acclaim

"The 2011 Chardonnay South River is one of the richer, rounder wines in this range. Almonds, honey, spices, dried apricots and flowers are some of the many nuances that take shape in the glass. There is a viscosity and oiliness in the 2011 that is attractive, but at the same time, there is plenty of underlying energy and minerality to provide balance. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2021."
94 Points

"Green-tinged gold. Vibrant, mineral-laced aromas of candied citrus fruits and pear, with a spicy topnote. Vibrant and precise, offering intense orchard fruit flavors that pick up a smoky iodine nuance with air. Finishes zesty and long, with resonating spiciness and impressive focus. This fruit is all Hanzell clone."
