This very limited bottling of 2000 I Block Fumé Blanc captures the highly complex flavors of grapes from 56-year-old vines in Robert Mondavi's To Kalon Vineyard. Believed to be the oldest Sauvignon Blanc vineyard in North America, the vines of I Block are deeply rooted at the foot of the Mayacamas Mountains in the Oakville AVA (American Viticultural Area) of Napa Valley. The old, gnarled vines produce small clusters of grapes with concentrated flavors and beautiful balance. Our I-Block Fumé Blanc expresses the vineyard's personality with rich layers of tropical fruit and spices, accented by subtle floral, mineral and toasted almond nuances. We fermented the wine entirely in French oak barrels and gently stirred the yeast during more than a year of barrel-aging. Only 441 cases were produced and have been estate-bottled without filtration.
