winemaker's notes:

Blend: 76% Pinot Noir, 16% Syrah, 4% Mourvedre, 2% Petite Sirah, 2% Merlot

Robert Mondavi 2006 Private Selection Pinot Noir was produced primarily from grapes grown along California's marine-influenced Central Coast. Reflecting the character of the cool, elongated 2006 vintage, which fostered the development of classic varietal aromas and flavors in Mondavi's Pinot Noir grapes, this vivacious red wine's hallmark is fresh, vibrant fruit.

In the nose, lovely raspberry and dried cherry aromas mingle with complementary scents of white and black pepper, mint and chicory. On the medium-bodied palate, the wine's supple, silky, berry and cherry jam flavors display a zesty black pepper spiciness in the bright, crisp finish.

Enjoy this pert, pretty Pinot Noir with grilled salmon, herb-roasted chicken, baked ham, and lighter pork and duck dishes.

  Surprisingly good - 5/7/2008
I would buy this wine again

My notes (collective summary of 6 wine tasters' notes at a dinner party. Food paring: cheese and cold cuts appetizer, pig-in-a-blanket, primavera pasta, clam Rockefeller, Korean style BBQ bone-in beef, and Thai style fried rice): Color: Nice red, not as deep as one would like but pleasing Bouquet: Bit on the light side but one could find berries, aromatic herbs, and a bit of the soil. Taste: light to medium weight but compliments the foods well. The light berry and aromatic herb tastes are easily overwhelmed by a bit of spice. The finish was just a short light note. Again, with spicier food, the wine gets lost. Best with light tasting food. Great to substitute with this wine when deciding to pair foods that typically goes well with white wine.

Screw Cap
Many studies report and winemakers agree that screw caps protect wine better and preserve its flavor more effectively than cork. More importantly, screw caps eliminate cork taint caused by TCA, a compound which develops in a small percentage of corks and ruins the taste of wine.
