The aromas of the 2008 vintage are that of intense, deep black currant and black cherry, intermixed with white pepper, a touch of anisette, fresh lavender and warm red stones. The flavors are an elegant mélange of black cherry, mountain lavender, espresso bean and savory notes. Signature Howell Mountain pepper and spice enter on the mid-palate, followed by an invigorating minerality. On the finish, the dark fruit keeps evolving, enlivened by a bouquet of violets and iris, together with coffee bean and cola. Overall, this vintage is expressive. Pure fruit and grine-grained, chewy tannins come together in a well-integrated package built for the long haul. Decanting is recommended.
Blend: 98% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Petit Verdot
"The 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain is a civilized wine from that high-elevation appellation. Plum, anise, pepper, and wild mountain fruits are present in the moderately intense bouquet. In the mouth, this medium-bodied wine displays good fruit, elegance, and a savory quality, with nothing out of place. Impressively pure and nicely textured, it should drink well for 10-15 years."
