The wine has great depth and complexity with tremendous pepper spice balanced with intense savory fruit. This was named after Sonnie, Bob's mother and the matriarch of the family.
Wine & Spirits - "This is Bob Lindquist's reserve reserve from his new estate vineyard, planted in 2005. The selection, started in the vineyard then narrowed in the cellar, is aged in Ermitage barrels, 50 percent new. Whole-cluster spice cuts against the meatiness of the tannin, while the fruit has the transparency of red forest berries. It's tart, sanguine and saline, needing several years in bottle for the power of the structure to mellow. Collectors would be well served nabbing a six-pack of this wine."
Qupe was founded in 1982 by Bob Lindquist. Located at the Bien Nacido Vineyard in northern Santa Barbara County, Qupe's current production is about 25,000 cases. The district sprawls out, covering most of the vineyard land between San Francisco and Santa Barbara. Some Central Coast wine is generic, bulk wine that contributes to the high production numbers of the area. But many winemakers and wineries, particular in some of the smaller AVAs, are small production artisans, creating unique and high-quality wine. The great thing about the Central Coast is its diversity - you're able to find a number of grape varieties and styles at a number of different price points.
