Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

Opaque purple color. On the nose great complexity, ripe black fruits with a mineral hint. On the palate huge concentration and tannic structure, with the Sousão component of the blend producing fine acidity.

Critical Acclaim

"Richly textured, verging on opulent, this should be a relatively early-maturing Port. Complex and intriguing on the nose, where smoky, minerally aromas evoke memories of sun-baked Douro schist, backed by plush blackberry fruit and a dash of maple syrup. Best from 2010."

Got this for $24 and consider it an amazing deal. Pretty decent vintage port, on the fruiter side. Well worth the price.

Learn About Quinta de Roriz Map ItMap It

Quinta de Roriz is one of the oldest and finest estates in the Douro and has been owned by the van Zeller family since 1815. Historical records show that Roriz was the very first Quinta Port to be exported and the first Quinta to establish an international reputation for the quality of its wines. During much of the 19th Century, Roriz was considered one of the greatest of Vintage Ports, and it is intended to re-establish this standing in the 21st Century.

This results in a wine both sweet and high in alcohol. Named for its home city Oporto, true Port must come from the designated area. The grapes used are a blend,, but the favored grape thought to...
