Winemaker's Notes

This Barbaresco is deep garnet in color, with deep and complex aromas giving off hints of licorice. On the palate, the wine is full and velvety with a long finish. Ideally suited with various meats and cheeses.

Critical Acclaim

"Lots of ripe strawberry and raspberry aromas follow through to a full-bodied palate, with chewy tannins and a long, caressing finish. A well-crafted red. Best after 2011. 2,915 cases made."
91 Points

"The 2004 Barbaresco is a very pretty, layered wine. Vibrant and fresh on the palate, it offers sweet dark fruit, menthol and spices with outstanding length and terrific harmony. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2019. "
91 Points

"Good bright, deep red. Dark cherry, currant, leather and nutty oak on the nose. Juicy and sappy with extract, showing a pungent freshness to the flavors of cherry and dried rose. Firm acids and building tannins give this dense Barbaresco excellent backbone. This still needs a few years in the bottle."

It is not the most planted variety, but it does make the most distinctive and age-worthy wines. Native to Piedmont, Nebbiolo is a bit of a soil snob - it's finicky about where it grows and has long been the honored red grape of Northern Italy...
