Winemaker's Notes

An intense and complex wine with great refinement and an abundance of refined red fruit notes. 2008 is a full bodied vintage with intense and rich fruit, ripe and powerful tannins and a very long finish.

Critical Acclaim

"One of the absolute highlights in this portfolio of utterly amazing wines, the 2008 Barbaresco Riserva Asili possesses marvelous depth and richness, but also little of the early approachability and sexiness of Asili. With time in the glass, the wine’s inner perfume gradually emerges, but ultimately this is a Barbaresco to bury in the deepest corner of the cellar. Once again, the Produttori have done a fabulous job with the Asili. The 2008 has nerves of steel and a huge, never-ending finish. It is by far the most imposing and structured Asili I have ever tasted from the Produttori. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2048."
96 Points

"This hillside of calcareous limestone and sand grows an intense, tannic nebbiolo balanced by concentrated red fruit. It’s soft and floral in the middle, where umami and sweet flavors meet, then bristles with power in the end, a tight, controlled force field of flavor."

He understood well the...

Learn About Nebbiolo

Nebbiolo(neh-bee-OH-low) The King of Piedmont Nebbiolo is the key grape in the wines of Barolo and Barbaresco. It is not the most planted variety, but it does make the most distinctive and age-worthy wines. Native to Piedmont, Nebbiolo is a bit of a soil snob - it's finicky about where it grows and has long been the honored red grape of Northern Italy...
