Winemaker's Notes

Complex but tight in its youth, with bright aromas of fresh rose, raspberry and incense. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and lots of fruit; enhanced by a good acidity and a firm tannic finish. Layered and rich.

Excellent when paired with intensely flavored fresh-egg pasta dishes, risottos, white and red meat, game and seasonal dishes.

Critical Acclaim

"An opulent, luxurious Barbaresco, this wine’s floral scents combine with its tannins to yield an earthy tension in the end, long-lasting and complete. The tannins have nebbiolo’s austere precision, a structure filled up with anise-scented fruit. Substantially and youthfully tough without any sense of excess weight, this has a long life ahead."
95 Points

"The 2008 Barbaresco Riserva Paje wraps around the palate with layers of dark fruit, spices and menthol. Today, the Paje is one of the more open of the 2008 Riservas, but there is plenty going on in the glass. Sweet floral and spiced notes add lift on the finish. As good as the Paje is, it also tends to shut down quickly in the glass. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2048."

He understood well the...

Learn About Nebbiolo

Nebbiolo(neh-bee-OH-low) The King of Piedmont Nebbiolo is the key grape in the wines of Barolo and Barbaresco. It is not the most planted variety, but it does make the most distinctive and age-worthy wines. Native to Piedmont, Nebbiolo is a bit of a soil snob - it's finicky about where it grows and has long been the honored red grape of Northern Italy...
