Wine Style Guide

Light & Fruity

Red wines that are more fruit-forward and lighter in tannin and body.

Smooth & Supple

Medium bodied reds that go down easy, with smooth tannins and supple fruit.

Earthy & Spicy

Wines where earthy and/or spicy dominate the flavors – typically medium to full body.

Big & Bold

Full bodied wines that have concentrated fruit and are higher in alcohol and/or tannins. Some need age.

Alcohol By Volume: 13.0%

Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

A beautiful deep red hue that seems almost opaque. The nose shows caramel and spices that mingle with red berry fruit. The palate is full and deep, with fine tannins and good length.

Critical Acclaim

"Another top value is the 2010 Cotes du Rhone Reserve red, a blend of 50% Grenache from their vineyards at Grand Prebois (adjacent to the Beaucastel estate), 20% Syrah from further north in Vinsobres, and the balance Carignan, Cinsault and other permitted grapes. The wine offers abundant amounts of red and black fruits intermixed with hints of tobacco leaf, earthy soil, pepper and spice. This supple-textured, delicious red is exactly what one expects of a very good Cotes du Rhone. "
88 Points

"Deep ruby. Cherry and dark berries on the pungent nose. Offers gently sweet blackberry and cherry flavors and picks up slight bitterness with air. Finishes on a smoky note, with good energy and a touch of bitter cherry."

We've tasted many different wines from this producer and all of them are very good. You may have Chatteauneuf du Pape or this Cotes du Rhone Reserve and find very tiny differences. For its price its an excellent wine. I have made it my favorite.

very good wine for the price. I was surprised to have such a good product with a twist off cap.

A good, not great, Cote du Rhone. Good for a glass with a burger.

Learn About Cotes du Rhone

A Cote of Many Grapes The appellation of Cotes du Rhone encompasses much of the land of the area, not to mention much of the wine - over two-thirds of the wine produced here is of the Cotes-du-Rhone appellation. Wines here need only be from the Cotes de Rhone geographic area (which is fairly large) and consist of one or more of the 22 varieties permitted. Being such a wide...

Learn About Rhone Red Blends

The Rhone region of France has a delightful selection of red varieties. There are 22 grapes allowed in the Rhone AOC, about half of them red. Most of these varieties are used as secondary blending partners, often comprising less than 10% of the blend. The primary red players of Rhone blends are Syrah, Grenache and Mourvedre. Most wines from the Southern Rhone use Grenache as their...
