Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

The Thomas Hyland range honors the pioneering spirit of Thomas Hyland, son-in-law of Dr. Christopher Rawson Penfold, whose stewardship of the company from the late 1800s until 1914 saw the development of what, in his lifetime, became Australia's most famous name in wine.

Color: Pale Straw with fluorescent white hues.

Nose: The nose shows aromas of white stone fruit, a touch of lifted citrus fruit and a subtle complex oak/yeast derived character that draws you in.

Palate: A fine, elegantly styled palate with refreshing citrus acidity. The mid palate offers generosity of flavor consisting of white nectarines and nougat/crème caramel.

Food pairings: Ideal with chicken, seafood and salads.

Critical Acclaim

"A restrained, cool-climate style, with good line, length and balance; the Robe component (49%) drives the style and flavour every bit as much as the Adelaide Hills component (55%); Fleurieu (6%). Controlled barrel ferment/wild yeast adds complexity."
