Penfolds Koonunga Hill Shiraz-Cabernet 2001
from Barossa Valley, Australia
Colour: Deep crimson red with a vibrant purple rim.
Bouquet: Forward aromas of rich plum and blackberry fruit with hints of licorice and enticing eucalyptus. Further inspection reveals cherry/chocolate and notes of black olive and rhubarb.
Palate: Fleshy small berry and plum fruit flavors are harmoniously backed by savory secondary notes. A seamless, sculptured mouthfeel leads to the warm and lingering finish. Fine fruit tannins combine with well-integrated oak to enhance the generous fruit flavors.

This is a superb wine. Dark, opaque red. To the nose, some berries. To the mouth, fruity and woodsy (a subtle taste of oak). This wine is perfect with red meat, stew - anything with dark sauce.
