This is one of our finest bottlings of Hyde Vineyard Chardonnay in memory, and like many of our wines from the spectacular 2009 vintage, it is richly textured with beautiful density and depth. The nose offers classic Hyde notes of marmalade and ginger, with layers of cedar and smoke adding a complex counterpoint. On the palate, the citrus and orange peel flavors combine with notes of summer melon, grilled pineapple, pear, cinnamon, clove and a hint of honey. Though the acidity is subtle and integrated, in tandem with Hyde's signature minerality, it gives the wine energy and drive.
"The reason why this winery scores so well, year after year, in
Chardonnay is because the production team knows how to get
maximum ripeness out of the grapes, while maintaining an integrity of structure. The ’09 Hyde exhibits this quality. It’s fantastically rich in oranges, apricots, pears and pineapples, yet possesses a bracing minerality and fine Carneros acidity."
"Pale yellow-gold. Distinctly Chablis-like aromas of lemon ice,
menthol and minerals. Dense and stony, with excellent inner-mouth lift to the licorice and menthol flavors. Still quite unevolved. Most impressive today on its very long, strong aftertaste, which features terrific energy and cut. This was aged in 50% new oak but I never would have guessed it. Hands off for at least a couple years"
