winemaker's notes:

The 2008 Patton Valley Vineyard Pinot Noir is all about intensity, concentration and structure. Its nose is a pantry of dark, exotic spices, black cherries, loamy earth and spring flowers. The wine quietly announces its entry with a sleek and highly refined texture that fails to hint at the bold concentration that follows. The mid-palate is a dense and complex array of dark cherry, plum, clove, anise and molasses. With near perfect balance of fruit, acid and tannin, the vintage will likely be regarded for its longevity; the result of the vintages slow ripening. Cellar with confidence for a decade or more.

critical acclaim:

"Light and succulent, packaging its seductive red cherry, pomegranate, caramel and mineral flavors in a wispy blanket of fine tannins, deftly balanced to let it all sing together harmoniously as the finish lingers. Drink now through 2018. 2,400 cases made"

Wine Spectator

"The 2008 Pinot Noir Estate Grown was aged in 43% new oak for 11 months. It gives up an expressive nose of spice box, incense, smoke, black cherry, and black raspberry. Smooth-textured, succulent, and structured, it has plenty of spicy black fruit, lively natural acidity, and the balance to evolve for 2-3 years. This lengthy effort will be at its best from 2012 to 2020."

The Wine Advocate

"Fragrant with cranberry and strawberry fruit, this forward and appealing wine looks and drinks like a cru Beaujolais. The tasty fruit is delineated with a chocolate lining, and the tannins carry a whiff of fresh earth. "

Wine Enthusiast

"Light, bright red. High-pitched aromas of strawberry, raspberry and rose are complemented by notes of white pepper and orange zest. Sweet red fruit flavors are lifted by a tangy mineral note and framed by silky tannins. A hint of smokiness arrives on the finish, which is juicy, focused and nicely persistent."
