Winemaker's Notes

The modern history of the Scavino family starts with this vineyard, within the Fiasco cru. Here the Nebbiolo grapes were always the best: consequently in 1978 young Enrico convinced his father Paolo to vinify these grapes separately. In this way the first, and still most loved cru, was established. The austere and fascinating king of the Scavino home.

Critical Acclaim

"The estate-s 2004 Barolo Bric del Fiasc is another awesome wine. Initially linear on entry, it explodes on the palate with a compelling array of dark fruit, smoke, tar, licorice, new leather, plums and baking spices. Although Bric del Fiasc is typically a wine that relies on power, the 2004 is notably refined and elegant, with sweet silky tannins that support the fruit from start to finish. Simply put, this is a remarkable wine from Enrico Scavino. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2022."
96 Points

"Dark in color, with gorgeous aromas of blackberry, black licorice and blueberry. Full-bodied, with supersilky tannins and a long finish. A bit tight, but pretty and balanced. Very long and cerebral. Best after 2012."

Learn About Paolo Scavino Map ItMap It

Enrico Scavino has been at the forefront of the modernist movement in Piedmont since the 1980s, and is today one of the most respected and highly regarded winemakers in all of Italy. Scavino diverged sharply from the tough-as-nails-when-young traditional style of Barolo to produce soft and lush wines that are delicious within months of release as well as later in their evolution, applying the same winemaking techniques to Barbera and Dolcetto.

Learn About Piedmont

(PEED-mont) Piedmont is located in the Northwest area of Italy, hugging the Mediterranean coast. The regional capital, Turin, is situated smack in the middle of the province. Being close to the alps, the area enjoys a high altitude, with the best vineyards benefiting from the hills and elevation. Known for its famous sub-districts, Piedmont delivers some of the most...

Learn About Nebbiolo

Nebbiolo(neh-bee-OH-low) The King of Piedmont Nebbiolo is the key grape in the wines of Barolo and Barbaresco. It is not the most planted variety, but it does make the most distinctive and age-worthy wines. Native to Piedmont, Nebbiolo is a bit of a soil snob - it's finicky about where it grows and has long been the honored red grape of Northern Italy...
