55% Garnacha, 40% Tempranillo, 5% Mazuelo
Named after the hillside vineyard located on the northeastern slope of the Yerga mountains in eastern Rioja, La Montesa is a blend of the red grape varieties on the Palacios Remondo estate. Renowned winemaker Alvaro Palacios describes this wine as having complex, profound and mysterious aromas that include notes of wild red berries, candied fruit, jasmine and sweet spice. On the palate the wine is unctuous and voluminous with soft tannins and a foundation of dark fruit shrouded by hints of shaved orange peel, white pepper and clove. Meant to enjoy now or age up to 10 years, this wine is very versatile and pairs well with almost any type of cuisine.
This was a lovely wine and a rich addition to a hearty pasta dinner.
Granache is one of my favorite reds, an it really stands out in this blend. I was not familiar with Tempranillo grape, but it did add an additional dimension in flavor. It reminded me of how I would imagine leather to taste.
I realy enjoyed this wine with seafood pasta. a good drinking wine to socialize with friends
This blend of garnacha and tempranillo has a robust initial flavor with a soft but slightly peppery finish.
