This deeply colored wine boasts rich, ripe aromas of blueberries, black fruit, and violets complemented by intriguing spice components. The lush, complex palate is balanced beautifully by ample acidity and creamy oak nuances. Tannins are moderate and will integrate seamlessly as the wine ages. This is truly a magnificent wine.
"You can count on Pahlmeyer to deliver wines that are bold, big and dramatic no matter the variety, and that is exactly what you get in this ripe and substantial Pinot Noir. It is deep, outgoing and compelling in its aromas of chocolate-covered cherries, bacony oak and hints of liqueur-all of which might suggest a wine that is patently over the top. But, as with other Pahlmeyer offerings, this one is amazingly easy to drink, and its balance is both civil-ized and proportionate to its style.
"Smooth, rich and polished, with ripe plum, wild berry and spicy blackberry notes that are elegant and stylish. This is harmonious, long and silky on the finish. Drink now through 2011. 1,400 cases made."
"The newest baby for Green and Pahlmeyer is their Pinot Noir from the Sonoma Coast. The 2005 Pinot Noir is tasting beautifully. There are 1,500 cases of this wine, which has a deep ruby color, a superb nose of raspberries, crushed rocks, and some subtle background oak. It is full-bodied, ripe, generous, with some forest floor-like notes reminiscent of a top red Burgundy. Drink it over the next 5-7 years"
The Wine Advocate
"Deep ruby-red. Sappy, dark aromas of black fruits, pomegranate, licorice and violet, with a suggestion of hard candy. Dense and powerful, with a velvety texture and sound acidity. Not yet complex but the black fruit flavors boast very good sweetness. A bit chunky in style, with chewy tannins and a slight dry edge. But an impressive first pinot release, mostly from Jayson Pahlmeyer's Wayfarer Vineyard.
International Wine Cellar
Jayson Pahlmeyer has been producing highly sought-after wines since 1986. It began with Jayson's dream to make world-class Bordeaux-style wine from Napa Valley. Pahlmeyer's estate vineyard - Waters Rance - is situated at 2100 feet in the Atlas Peak appellation of Napa Valley. It is the key source for their Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Chardonnay. Jayson's passion eventually led him to the Sonoma Coast, where less than seven miles and two ridges from the Pacific Ocean, he planted Wayfarer Farm, their key source for Pinot Noir.
Twice as large as Napa in size, Sonoma County only makes about a half the amount of wine as her northeasterly neighbor. But Sonoma, with her size, is able to vouch for more diversity within her borders, including sub-AVAs that are climatically varied. The atmosphere of Sonoma is decidedly laid back and down home country style. But in wines, they are keeping up with the...Read More About Sonoma County
