The wine has a very saturated purple color deeper than one would expect for a '98. The aromas are complex, with a deep blackberry/cherry core and just enough cedary notes from the oak to add considerable complexity. The mouthfeel is the wine's most impressive component. The wine is very lush and rich. The tannins, while they certainly are present, don't intrude on the fruit's expression. Multiple layers of red and black fruits bearing an almost jammy quality are further enhanced by vanilla notes from the oak The finish is long and detailed, with the fruit again at the forefront.
