winemaker's notes:

#33 Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2009

A blend of 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc.

Rich and expressive with ripe blackberry, currant and spicy black cherry aromas and flavors. Well-balanced, with plenty of dark fruit flavors lingering across a lengthy, expressive finish.

The Columbia Valley is a diverse growing region that provides a wide range of fruit expression by variety allowing the winemaker to craft rich, multi-layered wines by blending grapes from unique vineyards throughout the region. Vineyard sources that give this wine its richness and complexity include our estate vineyard, Stillwater Creek, and such well-known Columbia Valley vineyards as Seven Hills and Red Mountain, among others. The Cabernet Sauvignon is aged 20-months in predominantly French oak barrels; both new, and one-year-old.

critical acclaim:

" Dense and chewy, but with a nice lift of acidity and freshness as the finish rolls in, framing the cherry, blackberry, coffee and smoke flavors as they linger expressively. Best from 2011 through 2018."

92 Points

Wine Spectator

"The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley reveals darker fruits than the Merlot as well as greater structure. Ripe, spicy, and flavorful on the palate, it will continue to open over the next 2-3 years and offer prime drinking from 2011 to 2018. "

  Nice - 1/11/2010
I would buy this wine again
Great with strong cheese (e.g., french blue); realtively smooth, no distinct flavors come through. Very nice - but I didn't like it as much as some of the other reviewers.

  Great value - 10/20/2009
I would buy this wine again
Great value cab. While it may not have the complexity a harder (or more expensive) cab might have, worth every cent.

  Very elegant - 9/17/2009
I would buy this wine again
Medium/full bodied with a very rich mouthfeel. Intense notes of cherry and vanilla with the oak providing a firm foundation without getting in the way. Reminds me of th 05 St. Clement Oroppas.

Kosher
A Kosher wine begins like every other - as grapes on a vine. Once they reach the winery for crushing, the wine is under strict rabbinal supervision.
Screw Cap wine
Screw Cap
Many studies report and winemakers agree that screw caps protect wine better and preserve its flavor more effectively than cork. More importantly, screw caps eliminate cork taint caused by TCA, a compound which develops in a small percentage of corks and ruins the taste of wine.
