Winemaker Notes

Produced as usual from the 20 Rows block at Langhorne Creek, it is dark and full of spicy, berry aromas with mouth filling flavor. Despite its size and generosity, it also maintains lovely balance which stands it in good stead for the long term (... like a marathon runner compared to a sprinter perhaps... both strong, one much more immediately impressive, the other gaining your respect with experience... this Shiraz displays a little of each we believe).

Professional Ratings

Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2012 Reserve Shiraz reveals intense notes of crushed blackberries and black cherries with underlying wild blueberry, aniseed, chocolate box and Szechuan pepper hints. With a wonderful vibrancy to the fruit in the full-bodied and concentrated mouth, it displays a harmonious interplay of firm, rounded tannins and well-balanced acidity before finishing long. Drink it now to 2024+.

Dark, deep and spicy, this harmonious wine drips with cherry, black currant and tar flavors on a highly polished structure, playing against a hint of mint as the finish persists. Drink now through 2020.

Noon, Australia
Noon Winery Image
The darling of the Australian small winery scene, Noon has a great following both in Australia and in particular the US. Drew Noon produces some unique wines packed with ripe red fruit and often high levels of alcohol. Drew Noon took over operating the family owned Noon winery after spending time as Winemaker at Cassegrain and other ventures in Victoria.

The Eclipse and Reserve shiraz can command high levels of capital increase and are definitely wines to hold on to (if you can get them).

Marked by an unmistakable deep purple hue and savory aromatics, Syrah makes an intense, powerful and often age-worthy red. Native to the Northern Rhône, Syrah achieves its maximum potential in the steep village of Hermitage and plays an important component in the Red Rhône Blends of the south, adding color and structure to Grenache and Mourvèdre. Syrah is the most widely planted grape of Australia and is important in California and Washington. Sommelier Secret—Such a synergy these three create together, the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre trio often takes on the shorthand term, “GSM.”
