Wine Style Guide

Light & Fruity

Red wines that are more fruit-forward and lighter in tannin and body.

Smooth & Supple

Medium bodied reds that go down easy, with smooth tannins and supple fruit.

Earthy & Spicy

Wines where earthy and/or spicy dominate the flavors – typically medium to full body.

Big & Bold

Full bodied wines that have concentrated fruit and are higher in alcohol and/or tannins. Some need age.

Winemaker's Notes

Multiple layers of ripe fruit blend nicely with an array of earth, herb, tobacco and char. This wine has an incredible texture, which is soft, yet thick, from front to finish. The French oak adds sweetness and cigar-like qualities, while the fruit persists on velvet tannins into a long, supple finish.

Critical Acclaim

"The 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Quarry Vineyard reveals gorgeous depth in an understated, cool style. The Quarry is all about delineation and subtlety, both of which it has in spades. Mint, violet and cassis are some of the nuances that come to life in the glass as this elegant, finessed wine shows off its class and pedigree. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2028."
94 Points

"Really tannic now, with a mouth-numbing astringency that accentuates the dryness and makes the mouthfeel rather rasping. However, There's no question about the depth of flavor. This 100% Cabernet is vast in sweet blackberries and cassis, with an earthy undertone of herbs and minerality. Cellar Selection."

The area was settled by a few choice wine families in the 1960's who bet that the wines of the area would grow and flourish. They were right. The Napa wine industry really took off in the 1980's, when vineyard...

Either way, this grape is responsible, as a whole or a partner, for some of the greatest wines in the world. In Bordeaux,...
