winemaker's notes:
Mostly Merlot, with quite a bit of Cabernet Franc and a small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon, Newton's Claret is a clear, deep red color with touches of black cherry. On the nose, the balance is harmonized between coffee, pepper and fresh blueberries. Fruits, like blackcurrant, cranberry and cherry, evolve on the palate and linger with a spring-like freshness.
"The 2002 Claret has a perfumed, Bordeaux-like aroma of plums, figs, cranberries, currants, and anise followed by elegant, medium-bodied flavors with a touch of herbs and a nice structure."

My husband and I discovered this wine a month ago and promptly went out to our local liquor store and bought all they had! Rich, deep with a soft, soft mouth feel...velvety. Wonderful with good, sharp cheeses as well as any kind of meat. It is an extrememly complimentary wine to food. Love it!

I found that this particular wine has an incredible flavor that enables total enjoyment of any red meat wih a higher fat content. Specifically Prime Rib Eyes or Porter House.
Despite the enormity of flavor; the taste and dining experience is not overwhelmed. In fact, this wine is part of the actual meal as opposed to a beverage.
Wonderful and certainly in my wine rack.
