Winemaker's Notes

On the nose, the 2002 Syrah exhibits aromas of cassis and olives with ripe, plummy fruit and spicy/toasty notes. The palate is full of vibrant red fruit and blueberry notes, with great balance and soft, ripe tannins. We feel this vintage has excellent good aging potential.

Drank this wine after discovering it in a small section of a local wine store. The 2002 is drinking FANTASTIC right now!! Great meaty/chocolately flavors, nice mocha/ toasty oak/ leather aromas on the nose. Drinks well with dark chocolate or meats / cheese. Very round soft tannins, good ripe fruit, but still fresh. Blueberries, blackberries and pepper just make this a special find!

Learn About Morgan

The Lee family started Morgan in 1982. Located in the Santa Lucia Highlands of Monterey, the winery receives grapes from the family's organic vineyard, the Double L Vineyard, and a few select neighbors. The Double L is densely planted with 11 clones of Pinot Noir with rows oriented north-south for optimal sun exposure and interception of the cool breezes from the Monterey bay. This cool low yeilding area is becoming known as the "Cote d'Or of California" and produces wonderful Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Morgan also produces Sauvignon Blanc and Syrah from the various microclimates of Monterey.
