On the palate, Montes Alpha Merlot has flavors of black cherry, black pepper, tobacco and sweet chocolate. A handsome, ruby-red color, this wine is highly intense, full-bodied and well balanced. The Carménère in the blend adds subtle spiciness to the wine. This Merlot is round and velvety mid-palate with soft and ripe tannins. Well integrated oak with added touches of vanilla followed by a long and smooth finish, Montes Alpha Merlot is very elegant.
Blend: 85% Merlot, 15% Carmenere
"The 2008 Alpha Merlot is dark ruby red with an intriguing nose of cocoa/chocolate malt, a hint of herbs, cassis, and black cherry. Sweetly-fruited on the palate with a sense of elegance, this is a savory effort with good volume and a silky finish. It will offer enjoyment over the next 6-8 years."
