The very limited production of this wine begins with the careful selection of the best grapes from years in which the harvest is considered to be exceptional. After a lengthy maturation period in oak barrels, and a further prolonged ageing and refining process in the bottle, the resulting wine is a brilliant and intense ruby red with brick-red highlights, polished and elegant, and showing all the personality of a great Rioja wine.
A bright, ruby-colored wine made from 100% Tempranillo grapes, the Gran Reserva is medium-bodied and smooth. Black cherry aromas lead into flavors of sweet berry and plum. The hint of vanilla you may be getting on the finish is the result of the required aging. This is a complex, delicious wine to be savored over a fine meal or with good company.
Red meat, grilled heavier fish like salmon, and stronger-flavored cheeses are all perfect complements to this complex Rioja. Due to its aging ability, this Rioja would be a nice addition to your cellar – break it open in 4-6 years when you’re having a grande fiesta!
