winemaker's notes:
Pure, ripe plum and strawberry fruit flavors underscored by a crisp acidic note and a hint of earth mark this charming, succulent wine, set in a supple texture supported by sweet, soft tannins.
Michele Chiarlo selects his Barbera dAsti from the best of these vineyards planted in older vines and harvested at peak maturity. Vinified at the Chiarlo cellars in Calamandrana, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation and is then aged a least one year in oak. The result is a brilliant ruby-red wine with an intense yet airy, vinous bouquet and a medium-bodied, bone-dry robustness that is exceptionally pleasant on the palate. The best vintages, with age, tend to garnet in color, and show a velvety, harmonious quality of considerable elegance.

This wine is an incredible buy. It is inexpensive yet tastes great. It pairs well with food, but is delicious alone, as well. As a big fan of inexpensive Italian reds, I highly recommend this one.

I love this wine! Beautiful fruit, deep dark-berry flavors, and a long satisfying finish.

I received this wine as part of my September Wine Club Selection.
I had never heard of Barbera D'Asti until this selection for the wine club arrived. It sat on my wine rack for a month before I was brave enough to try it.
What a reward! This wine is fabulous. I am purchasing another bottle today! Very nice for sipping, and relaxing by the fire! not too sweet, and just the right amount of acidity, it is pleasing without being too overbearing.
We really enjoyed this wine!
