Winemaker's Notes

70% Grenache Blanc , 30% Sauvignon Vineyards: Planted on a "terroir argilo-calcaire", this vineyard is located at the southern edge of the Rhone Valley near Nimes. It benefits from cool sea breezes during the summer which protects the freshness of the fruit and its acidity.

Critical Acclaim

"The shockingly good white wines include the 2009 Cercius Blanc, a blend of 70% Grenache Blanc and 30% Sauvignon Blanc, all aged in concrete prior to bottling. Light straw-colored with a greenish hue, it exhibits attractive freshness along with plenty of melony fruit intermixed with honeyed citrus, white currants, and flowers. Medium-bodied and long, with some underlying minerality intertwined with its delightful fruit character, it should provide plenty of pleasure over the next 12-18 months."

In the northern Vaucluse, on the right bank of the Rhone river lies the village of Visan where the legendary mistral winds of Provence sweep over the vines. The Latin name for these north-northwest winds is CERCIUS – the defining feature and raison d'etre for partners Michel Gassier, Philippe Cambie and Eric Solomon to launch this new project. Between the brisk winds and an elevation of 400 meters, the grapes' freshness is protected and then preserved during vinification in concrete tanks.

Other white grapes may be included in miniscule amounts, but the above four are the principles. In the Rhone, Viognier is typically alone in the Northern Rhone and absent in the Southern Rhone, although, in the north, 20% of the variety...
