winemaker's notes:

Ménage à Trois Red brings together three strange bedfellows: Zinfandel, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. To add complexity and retain character, each variety was fermented separately, then blended together prior to bottling. On top there's Zinfandel, a saucy tease that brings blackberry and raspberry jam to the relationship. Merlot, with its generous mouth feel and red fruits, fits perfectly in the middle. The rich flavors and firm tannins of Cabernet Sauvignon make it the ideal candidate for the bottom layer of the trio.

The 2006 Ménage à Trois Red exposes the fresh, ripe, jam like fruit that is the calling card of California wine. Forward, silky and soft, this delicious dalliance makes the perfect accompaniment for grilled meats or chicken.

Recently purchased on a recommendation for a birthday party. Despite the varied tastes of the party goers, everyone loved the fruity, soft flavor of this wine. Served slightly chilled (about 15 min in fridge) then opened about 20 minutes before serving. For the price, it is an absolutely lovely wine.

I've known about this blend for awhile, but the most recent vintage seems especially good. Fruit forward and no bitter aftertaste, so it's a great wine to give or to take to parties.

As opened in November 2009, the 2006 edition of this blend is incredibly smooth and fruitful. I have not opened an under $10 bottle of wine before of this quality. The blend work is obviously phenomenal and if you can get your hands on a bottle of this at your local store, buy it while it lasts.
