Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

This Syrah has a deep red color with purple tints. Its aromas and flavors reminds on one side of leather, pepper, coffee and chocolate, without stopping the fruitiness at the same time, showing off cherry jam, black fruits and subtle mentholated hints. A wine with concentration, rounded tannins and a balanced and complex finish.

It is recommended to decant first and take to 64°F before serving. Recommended to accompany red meat, duck, dishes with sweet and sour sauces and mature and smoked cheese.

Critical Acclaim

"Like the juice of fresh, tart blackberries, this wine has a fruity sensation that keeps it lively. Spicy notes develop as well as meaty flavors, but the fruit continues to power through the wine, youthful and very seductive."
92 Points

"Rock-solid, with a muscular core of blackberry, black cherry and licorice liberally laced with briar and spice. The finish is grippy, but stays accessible overall."
90 Points

"Purple in color, with big, grapy aromas that fold in meatiness, warmth and power. The palate is a jammy blast of concentrated black fruit, herbs and lighter citrus along the edges. Lush on the back side, and probably more bold and forceful as opposed to refined or elegant. Drink now through 2012."

Learn About Chile

(CHEE-lay) Long and thin, Chile has a lot of land north to south. The wine region here is a series of districts based near Santiago. The vineyards are protected by the Pacific on the west and the Andes mountains on the east. This could help explain why the climate changes more from east to west than north to south - also why the country has remained phylloxera free....

Learn About Syrah/Shiraz

(seh-RAH/shee-RAHZ) It's a Smokin' Grape Syrah and Shiraz - same grape, different name. It's a popular and adept variety, growing in multiple regions and creating many different styles of wine. The home base of Syrah is the Northern Rhone, where it creates the exclusive wines of Hermitage and Cote Rotie. On the less pricy side, the Rhone makes Syrah-based wines in Crozes...
