Red wines that are more fruit-forward and lighter in tannin and body.

Wines where earthy and/or spicy dominate the flavors – typically medium to full body.
Full bodied wines that have concentrated fruit and are higher in alcohol and/or tannins. Some need age.
Its purple color speaks to how highly concentrated and extracted this wine is, and the floral aromas, black fruit and chalky minerality speak to the pedigree of the vineyards. On the palate, the wine is completely balanced, with full body, good acid, ripe tannins, and a velvety mouthfeel.
"The entry level is Salanques with an annual production ranging from 18-25,000 bottles. The 2008 Salanques is made up of 65% Garnacha, 20% Carinena, and the balance Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. The owners consider 2008 to be one of the top 3 vintages of the decade, "a great vintage with low yields and vibrant acidity." Its older vines were aged for 12 months in 50% new French oak while the younger vines were aged in second year barrels. Medium purple in color with a fragrant nose of cedar, mineral, spice box, lavender, black cherry, and blueberry, on the palate it is smooth-textured, intense, and concentrated with 2-3 years of aging potential. It will perform optimally from 2014 to 2023."
The Wine Advocate
"Vivid ruby. Sexy, intensely perfumed aromas of red and dark berry preserves, spices and minerals. Silky and sweet on the palate, with very good depth and clarity to its raspberry and mulberry flavors. Shows no rough edges and drinks very easily right now but I have no doubt that this will be even better with a few more years of bottle age. This is pretty suave for the money.

The Catalans call it Priorat, most others in Spain say Priorato - however you choose to pronounce it, it's easy to see it has been an up-and-coming region for Spain, sparking envy among collectors. The region has become something of a cult wine producer, creating wines that cost up to 5 times that of a quality Rioja. The region has a special soil, called...Read More About Priorat
